President & Ambassador Message

A Message From Our President

Dear Guests,

Welcome to the 135th Dresden Exhibition. The Board of Directors, volunteers and myself have been working very hard to make this exhibition special as it is our 135th anniversary. Wow, 135 years. Not many groups are able to claim that kind of history, and we at the Dresden Agricultural Society are quite proud of our accomplishments and longevity in the great community of Dresden. Please take time to visit us this special weekend as we reminisce and plan for the future, including the Grand Opening of the Ed Stanley 4-H Building.

This year we have a taste of what you can expect at the fair here in the Prize Book. Look for our flyer with a more detailed agenda to follow as the entertainment, 4H, etc gets confirmed. Look for returning favourites and few surprises to shake things up! Meet up with family, friends, neighbours and myself at the fair!

Sincerely,

Brad Wardell

A Message From Our Ambassador

Dear Visitors,

What a year it’s been! I received the wonderful opportunity to be the Dresden Exhibition Ambassador along with my first year of university in a completely new and different city. I’ve certainly learned a lot about my hometown and also myself. It has without doubt been a great pleasure to represent the Dresden Agricultural society for the year of 2009-2010.

I owe immense thanks to all the members of the society who gave me this great opportunity and also to the other volunteers and individuals who help to keep the ambassador program up and running. I would also like to thank my fellow contestants who made the competition fun and relaxing, and who reminded me how important it is to just be yourself.

I have learned not only about my own society and fair, but how important community fairs are in Ontario and all the work, effort, and creativity that go into them. Recently I attended the OAAS Convention and was lucky enough to make a handful of new friends and learn a lot about other agricultural communities. The most important thing I learned, however, was the importance of both tradition and newfound ideas. It’s no secret that fair’s and interest in agriculture and its practices are slowly loosing their appeal to the fast-paced and technology-driven people of today’s society. I have truly learned the exceptional challenge that each member of our agriculture society faces each year as they make plans to create a new and exciting fair. I encourage younger members of the community to be ambassadors and help bring fresh and dynamic elements that showcase all the traditional aspects that everyone loves and help to keep their rural fairs and agricultural communities strong. I hope that during my year as Ambassador I was able to help people gain an appreciation for their local fairs and take time to slow down and experience the traditions, fun, and excitement that they offer.

Again I would like to thank everyone who made this opportunity possible and for all the community support offered that was offered to me over the past year. My role as Ambassador has been a unique and once in a lifetime learning experience that I will never forget. I am so thrilled to be attending the Canadian National Exhibition at the end of the summer and will most certainly do my best to proudly represent the Dresden Exhibition and Agricultural Society.

Sincerely,

Jessica Glasgow
